Using Communicate as a Client

Your clients can log into Communicate on a web browser at anytime or from a mobile phone. To make sending messages and reviewing files securely easy while on-the-go, Communicate also has a mobile app that you and your clients can use. Learn more about the Communicate Mobile App.

You can also download the Smokeball Communicate Mobile App on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to begin easily & securely interacting with your law firm/conveyancer.

The first time you send your client (or any non-Smokeball user) a Communicate message, they will receive an email as follows:

Once they click on the Get Started  button, they will be taken to a web version of Communicate in their Web Browser:

Brand new communicate users

If the user is a new third party Communicate user accessing for the first time, the user would be required to authenticate their email address with 2-factor authentication.

Returning communicate users

  • If the user is returning to an existing recent conversation, they will be taken straight into the conversation.
  • If the user is accessing a new conversation, they may need to enter their authentication code to access the conversation.

  • Once logged in, they will see the following in their internet browser and:
    • (1) Select the conversation to review
    • (2) Quickly toggle between the message history or files only
    • (3) Review individual messages and/or attachments.
    • (4) Respond to messages and attach files.

Alert Messages and Mobile App

When new messages are sent, an email notification will be sent.

Note: If you are communicating 'live' with your client and they are still in their browser or App, they wont get an email. An email is only sent when a message is unread for a period of 10 minutes.

On the Communicate Mobile App, an additional notification will also be sent:

  • Log in to review the message and/or shared file(s).
