Create an email container

Learn how to create a document container for sending out emails to contacts.

Before you begin

During account setup, the Smokeball Team likely already set up an email container for you. Check your list of Document Containers in Smokeball Settings for an "Email body text" Letter container or similar.

If you already have an email container, modify it instead. This way, Smokeball precedents using it as default will display it.

  1. Navigate to Smokeball Settings in the top-right corner of Smokeball.
  2. Select Document Containers and click Add.
  3. Write ‘Email’ for the name, choose Letter under the Type drop-down menu and select Blank. Select Create.
  4. In the blank document, write the word ‘Dear’ and then insert the <<Addressee/Dear>> field to automate it.
    • To insert fields, navigate to the Smokeball Toolbar on the right-hand side of Word. Select the Field tab and expand the Addressee section. Double-click on the "Dear" field to insert it.image(260).png
  5. Insert the <<Body Content>> field. This is where the body text for a blank letter or precedent will be displayed. image(264).png
  6. Place your text input cursor in front of the <<Body Content>> field, then select Save & Close.

    • This placement is important. Otherwise, you may run into formatting issues when generating a blank email or precedent.

You will now find the email container available when opening letters or precedents, and it can be sent as a Body Text.
