QLD - Medical Negligence

This article will show you how to:


To create a new Medical Negligence matter, follow the steps below. 

  1. Click New Matter from the Home Screen
  2. Select State: QLD
  3. Select Matter Category: Personal Injury
  4. Select Matter Type: Medical Negligence

  5. Enter the Claimant and Respondent, including all relevant details
  6. Select 'Negligence Details' to enter the Incident Date and Cause of Action Date (if different). The Statute of Limitations Expiry Date will calculate for you here and can be added as an Event to the Calendar by clicking 'Create Events'

  7. If the matter is proceeding in the Courts, you will need to add the Court Details layout to your matter from Matter Settings (cogwheel in top right)

  8. Enter the Doctor/s and then select the Doctor Details layout for each Doctor to add the Doctor Type and select whether they are the Nominated Treating Doctor or giving evidence

  9. Enter the MedicoLegal/s and then select the MedicoLegal Details layout for each MedicoLegal to add the MedicoLegal Type and select whether they are giving evidence

  10. To add Uncommon Contacts and Layouts to your matter, open the Matter Settings and select the appropriate contact from the Parties & Data available in your matter.
    For Medical Negligence (QLD), the available parties include Deceased, Accountant, Barrister, Process Server, Previous Solicitor and Additional Contacts:

Change existing General matter to Medical Negligence

Existing QLD General matters can be easily changed to Medical Negligence as follows:

  1. Open your existing General matter (used for Medical Negligence)
  2. Open Matter Type
  3. Select change...

  4. Select new Matter Type as Personal Injury > Medical Negligence
  5. Select OK:
  6. Enter Reason For Change
  7. Select OK:
  8. Your matter will now appear as 'Medical Negligence', with the party roles and layouts that are available in the Medical Negligence matter
