Billing Release November 2021

Below is the highlighted new feature released in November 2021 for Smokeball Billing.

Less Funds in Trust (Invoicing)

Time Write Down Report

Less Funds in Trust (Invoicing)

  • When a firm creates an invoice there is now an additional option the user can select, labeled “Show less funds held in trust?”
  • When selected, and when the client has funds available for that matter in trust, the balance due will be reduced by either the total of the invoice or the available funds if there are not enough funds in trust to cover the entirety.
  • This is not a payment method; it is a way to indicate to the client that the firm will use funds in trust to cover this invoice. This will then show to the client that there is either a zero-dollar balance due, or the remainder.

Using Less Funds in Trust in Practice

  • When a Draft Invoice is created, the firm can simply tick the “Show less funds in trust” option, and the available funds will be deducted from the Balance Due.

  • The adjusted balance due will be shown on the PDF Invoice at the top of the invoice, as well as listing in the totals section.

Time Write-Downs Report

  •  A report titled Time Write-Downs will be added to Smokeball Billing.  This report will allow users to assess the original duration and the current actual duration of time entries along with write-offs to determine the total amount adjusted.
