Smokeball Release Notes August 2026

View all new features and refinements to Smokeball Grow and Prosper+ for this month.

25th August 2026

Version 10.0 of the Smokeball Desktop App is gradually rolling out to all users. If you are not receiving a prompt to update, log out and back in to the Desktop App.

Version 10.0 contains the following new features and refinements:

A new logo for the Desktop App

Smokeball has undergone a fresh rebrand with a new logo! This affects all areas where the logo appears, such as but not limited to:

  • The desktop and taskbar icon

  • The desktop app sidebars

  • All pop-out windows from the Desktop App

  • Your Daily Digest email

Supervisor role for all matters

You can now add a Supervisor to your matter via the Matter Info window.

You can also right-click on the Matter List and select Supervisor as a column, which displays the initials of the supervisor for each matter.

Supervisor fields have also been added to Word Modify Mode, allowing you to automate this information into your documents.

Notable bug fixes

  • Fixed a Classic Outlook bug where all email attachments were auto-selected when trying to save the email.
  • Fixed an issue where new files in a matter weren’t appearing in the right position when sorting files by Date & Time modified - Descending.
  • Fixed a bug where a file would appear stuck being uploaded by another user if the upload was cancelled by the uploader.
  • Fixed a 500 error that affected matter access permissions.
  • Fixed a timeout/slowness issue when loading a large number of contacts.
  • Fixed a bug that failed to move memos between matters.
  • Fixed a bug that rendered Next Steps as 1/01/0001.
  • The Due Date and Completed Date columns in Task Search are now sortable again.
  • Fixed a bug when creating a contact and the “Possible Duplicate” window opens off screen, locking up the desktop app.
  • Fixed a bug where the Daily Digest email wasn’t sending if the email body was too long and exceeded the email server’s max message size.

20th August 2026

The Smokeball Web App has been updated:

  • The Web App has been updated with a new logo!

  • Failed charges on payment plans now give more descriptive error messages when you hover over them.
  • Fixed a bug where Invoice Title, Subtitle and Notes in a matter's Invoice Settings reset to None after navigating away from and returning to Edit Matter.

11th August 2026

Smokeball Intake has been updated:

  • You can now customise the background colour of your Intake Forms as part of your firm's Branding Settings.

    • Options include Default, Brand Color, White or Transparent. Use Transparent when the form is embedded on your website and you want it to blend into your existing page design.
    • The background colour applies to all existing and new Intake Forms for your firm.
  • Fixed an issue with a large blank space appearing in the generated PDF when a form includes multiple contacts in a group.
  • Fixed an issue where changing a form's message templates was not triggering the publish modal.
  • Fixed an issue where the checkbox and toggle box in Smokeball Settings > Intake Forms > General appeared cut off when selected.
  • Fixed an issue where the "leave without publishing" modal remained on screen after the previous 'publish form' modal was closed.

6th August 2026

The Smokeball Web App has been updated with the following:

  • Fixed an issue where hyphens could not be entered in Activity Codes in the Web App.
  • Fixed an issue where staff with Invoice Read Only permissions could not send or download Invoice Credit Note PDFs.
  • The option to Send Via Client Portal has been added to the Invoice and Credit Note view.

5th August 2026

The Smokeball Mobile App has been updated with the following:

  • Liquid Glass compatibility has been added to the iPhone and iPad versions of the Mobile App.
  • You can now secure the Smokeball Mobile App with a lock screen or Face ID to trigger after the app is sent to the background and reopened, or has been idle. To set this up:
    1. Tap on Menu on the bottom bar.
    2. Tap on Settings, then Security.

    3. Toggle on the Lock Screen option.

    4. Set up a PIN number and confirm it to enable the lock screen.

    5. [iOS App only and Optional] Toggle on Unlock with Face ID to enable the option to unlock the Mobile App with Face ID, and have the PIN number as a backup option for when Face ID fails.

    6. After you enable the Lock Screen, set how long it takes to auto-lock in two situations:
      • Lock when in the background: when you switch away from the app
      • Lock when idle: when the app is open on screen but not in use

4th August 2026

Version 9.19 of the Smokeball Desktop App is now available to all users. If you are not receiving a prompt to update, log out and back in to the Desktop App.

Version 9.19 contains the following refinements:

  • Restored the ability to see both a matter contact and its parent Organisation contact when selecting contacts in a matter.
  • Fixed an issue with memos not syncing from the Smokeball Mobile App.
  • Fixed a slowness and freezing issue that occurred when there were a large number of contacts in a Select Contacts screen. The window now loads instantly, with a search bar, resizable dialogue, alphabetical sorting, and bolded last names.
  • Fixed an issue where the window "There are unsaved changes" kept appearing when switching to the Contact Details tab from Safe Custody Register in a contact card.
  • Fixed an issue when sharing an Intake Form via email opened an Outlook draft email with no pre-filled content.
