Version 9.17 of the Smokeball Desktop App is gradually rolling out over the coming weeks. It contains the following new features and refinements:

Measures to prevent duplicate contacts from being created

We have made some changes to contact selection on a matter and the process on creating a new contact:

• When adding a contact as a party in a matter, the window that appears will default to a contact picker to select an existing contact. If the contact doesn't exist, click Create a new contact to proceed with adding them to Smokeball.

  

• When entering the email address or phone number of a new contact, the system will search for any exact matches that already exist in your Contacts database. If there's an exact match, it will appear as a drop-down, allowing you to select the existing contact. This can be ignored if the phone number or email does indeed belong to a separate contact.

  

• Right-clicking on a party in Matter Details now displays Add [party to the matter] instead of Add an existing [party to the matter].

  

• The wording around editing an existing contact has been updated to distinguish it from the screen to create a new contact.

  

Staff registration improvements

We have made the following improvements to the process in adding a new staff member/user to Smokeball:

• The expiry date on registration links via email has been extended from 3 to 7 days.

• The UI has been updated.

  

Faster loading for Tasks that are linked to Workflows

Tasks that have triggers connected to Due Dates and/or Assignees in a Workflow (e.g. linked to another task's Completion Date, or to the Attorney Responsible) now update instantly when a user edits the source data.

Notable bug fixes

• Fixed an issue where the Billing widget was not displaying on Leads.
• Fixed an issue where duplicating workflows created duplicate tasks that were still linked to the original workflow.
• Pressing Ctrl+S or the disk icon on a Word document or Excel spreadsheet specifically opened from the PC's local drive will no longer save changes back to the matter.
• Fixed the behavior in New Outlook where users have to manually click on the Edit (Pencil) icon in order to create a draft email.

FamilyPro has been updated with the following features:

• You can now record Contingent Liabilities in FamilyPro and convert them into a debt at a later time.
• [FL only] The Florida Financial Affidavit Smart Form is now available to assist you with completing the Florida Financial Affidavit for your clients.

In the Smokeball Web App, you can now add a contact to the Credit Card Deposit Request when there are multiple debtors for the matter, improving flexibility when processing credit card deposit requests.

Archie has been updated with the following new features:

New Agentic Model

Archie's engine has been updated to better assist with complex queries and workflows. It will now work through your matter more deliberately, by:

• Checking if there's enough context in your matter before responding
• Giving clear signals when something isn’t fully supported
• Having stronger continuity across multi-step conversations
• Producing answers that are more complete and grounded
• Aiming to reduce the need for follow-up prompts and manual verification

In addition, Archie can now generate slide-style images to help summarise or visually present information. 

Archie Word Add-in

You can now use Archie alongside Microsoft Word by installing the Smokeball Archie Word Add-in. This add-in contains many unique features dedicated to document review, and utilizes the in-build Review feature in Word to help you draft documents and correspondence.

Create tasks, memos and events in Archie

Archie can now create tasks, memos and calendar events for your matter when prompted to. All actions require explicit user confirmation before execution.

Ask Archie with your voice (Voice Dictation)

You can now use your PC's microphone to talk to Archie. Click on the microphone icon to start recording.

Archie Matter Widget

You can now access Archie from the widget panel on the right-hand side of your matter file.
