This article will show you how to:
- Create a new Trade Marks matter
- Enter the Trade Marks Details
- Enter the Application Details
- Add uncommon contacts onto the matter
- Change existing General matters to Trade Marks matters
To create a new Trade Marks matter, follow the steps below.
- Click New Matter from the Home Screen
- Note this is a Federal matter type (available in all states)
- Select Matter Category: Intellectual Property
- Select Matter Type: Trade Marks
- Enter the Client, including all relevant details
- Enter Trade Mark details on the Details layout
- Enter the Application Details on the second tab of the Details layout
- To add Uncommon Contacts to your matter, open the Matter Settings and select the appropriate contact from the Parties & Data available in your matter.
For Trade Marks, the available parties include Licensor, Government Department, Renewal Agent, Accountant, Barrister, Previous Solicitor and Additional Contact.
Change existing General matter to Trade Marks matter
Existing General matters can be easily changed to Trade Marks matters as follows:
- Open your existing General matter (used for Trade Marks)
- Open Matter Type
- Select change...
- Select new Matter Type as Intellectual Property > Trade Marks
- Select OK:
- Enter Reason For Change
- Select OK:
- Your matter will now appear as 'Trade Marks', with the party roles and layouts that are available in the Trade Marks matter
