Woking in a Lead

Smokeball makes it easy to keep track of new enquiries and leads directly within the Smokeball platform.

Leads offer many of the same feature as Matters, with the added benefit of being able to report on leads.

By tracking both active matters and potential new business, your firm gains better visibility, improved workload management, and the insights needed to drive growth and identify new opportunities.

What's the difference between Leads and Matters?

Leads and Matters function similarly to one another, with a few differences to note:

  • Leads have a different header bar colour and icon to distinguish them from Matters.
  • Leads have a Convert to Matter bar, which will disappear after the Lead has been converted to a Matter.
  • Leads have a Lead Details section heading, whereas Matters have a Matter Details section heading.
  • Leads are set up broadly per area of law, whereas matters are configured specifically for each legal process process within an area of law.
  • A Lead will have a Lead Type matter listing item, whereas a Matter has Matter Type.
  • Leads typically do not include a Matter Number/Internal Reference Number, though one can be assigned if required.

You can work in the lead similar to a matter and add parties, schedule events, create tasks or next steps, and automate letters and documents.

You can also be more productive working in a lead by applying stages, workflows or creating views for upcoming lead tasks.

Once the client retains you, you can convert the Lead to a matter.

Good to know

  • Make use of Memos to capture phone interactions and other important notes about each lead.
  • Use the Next Steps box to note important considerations and key actions for the lead.
  • Firm Owners can use Firm Insights to determine when to follow up old leads.
  • Create a custom Dashboard to monitor lead activity, with key widgets including New Leads, Leads with No Activity, Web Enquiries, and more.
  • Take advantage of Smokeball's dedicated lead reports, such as Lead - Full List, Lead - Referral List, Lead - Marketing Report and more.
