Access Firm Insights
Dashboard Reporting is located in Firm Insights. When you select Firm Insights from the home screen, Dashboards will be your default view.
Firm Insights reporting access must be designated to users. If you need Firm Insights access, reach out to your Account Manager or submit a ticket.
Dashboard Types
Custom Reporting
Although Smokeball has almost every report you will need already available, there may be custom reports you have used in previous systems or created on your own. If all the required data already exists in Smokeball, it may be possible for Smokeball's team to build a custom report for you.
Talk to your Account Manager if there is a specific report you feel is missing. You may find Smokeball already has it, but if not, they can work to see if our team can create a report for you.
New Business Insights
Use this report to analyze firm trends. You can quickly understand what matters have been opened in the past week, month, and year to look for trends.
If you find yourself asking the following questions, Smokeball can help.
- How many matters did we open recently? Last 12 weeks? 12 months? 3 years ago at this time?
- Which attorneys created new matters?Â
- What areas of law and referrals came in over the last 30 days?
Fee Insights
Whether fixed fee, contingent, or time-based, Fee Insights focuses on what fees were created last week and over time.
Fee Insights also breaks fees down by type, top 5 clients, and top 5 matter types.
Real Estate Closing Insights
Real Estate clients can take a deep dive into real estate closing coming up in the future.

Smokeball Activity Insights
Smokeball Activity Insights takes a deep dive into how your firm is using Smokeball. This usage reporting includes how many matters, files stored, documents automated, emails, tasks, events, mobile app, and fees. Activity Insights also provides usage benchmarks compared to other firms like yours.
Use this report to understand what features you are utilizing and not using in Smokeball and areas where you can get more out of Smokeball. If you find your staff is not using Smokeball to its highest potential, reach out to your Account Manager.
New Matter Insights
New Matter Insights takes the referral source of your matters and helps you understand what your top referral sources and referrals are.
Use this report to better understand what referral resources or particular people help get clients walking through your door. This report can help you understand where to spend money on advertising, marketing, etc.

Lead Insights
Lead Insights presents the number of leads opened, closed, or converted over a 30-day period. It also presents the total number of open leads, conversion rates, and reasons lost.

Hourly Billing Performance Insights
Hourly Billing Performance allows you to review the average daily billing performance of the firm and its users.
Use this report to better understand what work has been billed daily and how many billable hours have been lost.
Referral Insights
This report is an overview of your referred clients on personal injury matters and who referred them. The Referral Insights reports shows when the referred matter was opened and closed. It also breaks down the settlement amounts, firm proceeds, attorney costs, and more.Â

Average Daily Billing Performance
This report shows what your staff typically bills per day compared to the Activity tracked by Smokeball. Review this report to determine if your staff are losing time and to optimize your firm’s profitability.
This report will include all staff who are not designated as Receptionist or Bookkeeper, and it summarizes Activity tracked by Smokeball. All statistics in this report are daily averages. The column headers are explained in the menu below.Â
- Rate: Amount entered as fee earner's top level rate -- not on individual matters where the rate is overridden
- Days Worked: Count of days the fee earner has any time recorded via Activity (no minimum threshold)
- TB:AutoTime: Time tracked, on average, per days worked in matters labeled as time based
- TB: Billable Time: BILLABLE time tracked, on average, per days worked in matters labeled as timebased
- FF:AutoTime: Time tracked, on average, per days worked on matters labeled as fixed fee
- FF:Fees Billed: Dollar amount on a finalized bill on fixed fee matters on fees attributed to that employee
- FF:EquivHours: The amount of time the fixed fees billed are equivalent to
- Total Worked: The sum of TB:AutoTime + FF:AutoTime (may be small rounding discrepancies)
- Total Billable: The sum of TB:BillableTime + FFEquivHours (may be small rounding discrepancies)
