Creating a VIC Defamation Matter

To create a new VIC Defamation matter, follow the steps below. 

  1. Select Defamation > Plaintiff or Defendant

  2. Enter the parties' details. For help on this, see Adding Contacts.

  3. Enter the Defamation Details.

  4. The Statute of Limitations Expiry Date will automatically populate as 1 year after the Publication Date. To change the Statute of Limitations Expiry Date, tick the checkbox next to the Expiry Date and select a new date.

  5. To add the Statute of Limitations Expiry Date to a calendar, click Create Events, select the relevant calendar and click Create.

  6. If the parties are involved in a VIC court proceeding, enter the case details and pleading details in Court Details

Adding Additional Contacts

  1. To add further Contacts to your matter such as a Barrister, open the Matter Settings and select the appropriate Contact.

Changing who you represent

  1. To change who you represent, for example if you have selected that you act for the Plaintiff when you in fact represent the Defendant, you can change this by Double-Clicking on 'Matter Type' and select the correct party that you represent.
