The Smokeball Web App has everything you need for billing and managing matters in one place. You can access the web app from any device running a web browser - just log in with your Smokeball login details.
Navigation basics
The Home Screen gives you access to everything you need:

Views: Use the leftmost menu to easily toggle between different views. Access Matters, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Time/Fees, Invoice, Accounts, Reports and Messages.Â
- Select the > icon at the bottom of the menu to expand the icons for a description.
- Settings: Access Firm Setting and help resources in the lower left corner. Learn more about Firm Settings.
- View Filters: Use the second-to-left menu to further filter the current view that you are on.Â
- Search: Search for matters, leads, contacts and more.
- Create New: Quick add a matter, contact, time/fee, cost recovery, task, etc.

Views
Quick place to jump to your Matters, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Time/Fees, Invoices, Accounts, Reports and Messages.
Matters: The Matters view displays all Matters and Leads in one place. The list can be filtered by area of law, matter type, status (e.g. Open, Pending, Closed, etc), Matter Fee Earner, Client Account Balance and more, making it easy to find exactly what you need. Contacts: All Contacts imported or created in Smokeball can be viewed in the Contacts view. The Contacts View is where you can manage debtors with payment plans. Select any contact to see additional details, including contact information, matters, all invoices, transactions, and individual client payment plans. Learn more about Payment Plans.
Calendar: the Calendar view acts as your shared calendar in Smokeball, where you can choose to see any staff member's calendar or group calendars. Learn more about using the Calendar view.
Tasks: Keep track of outstanding and completed tasks in the Tasks view. Learn more about working with Tasks.Â
Time/Fees: Similar to Smokeball Desktop, the Time/Fees View is a place where you can review, edit, or create time, fee, and cost recovery entries for any Matter. All entries created in the web app will be accessible in the desktop application and vice versa. Learn more about creating entries in Smokeball.
Invoices: Create, draft edit and finalise all invoices in this view. Use the filters to access any individual invoices, bulk create invoices, bulk finalise with payments, and send out your reminders. Learn more about Invoices.
Accounts: Accounts is where you will manage all your Client Account and Operating Account transactions, and review your ledger. The web app has powerful features to help you manage your accounts including Client Account Reconciliation and End-of-Month Processes. Learn more about managing your Client Account.
Reports: The Reports view offers a range of reports to manage all aspects of the billing cycle including client account reports, invoicing, matter overview, and time/cost recoveries reports. Learn more about Smokeball Billing reports.
Messages: Send secure messages and/or files with clients and staff through the Client Portal, including SMS messages.

Settings
Select the cog wheel icon to log out or access Billing Settings, or the ? Help icon to access the Smokeball Support Hub. Learn more about Billing Settings.
View Filters
Each View includes its own set of View Filters to help you focus on specific information and see only the data that you need.Â
When you select a View, the corresponding View Filter panel will appear immediately to the right of the View menu. The available filters will vary depending on the selected View. Here are some examples:
- Matters can be filtered by area of law, matter type, status (e.g. Open, Pending, Closed, etc), Matter Fee Earner, Client Account balance, and more.
- Contacts can be filtered by type (Clients or All), and contact status (e.g. Current, Deleted, All).Â
- Calendar view can be filtered by staff member (including former staff), or by group calendars.
- Tasks can be filtered by assignee, task category, and status (e.g. To Do, Overdue, Completed, etc).
- Invoices can be filtered by status (Draft, Unpaid, Overdue, Paid, etc), issue date, sent status, send preference, and more.
- Accounts can be filtered by account (if multiple are available), or select Ledger or Cheques to view entries of this type within selected date range.
Search
Search for anything in Smokeball by using the client's name or matter number.
As you search, suggested results will appear. Select See all results for a more detailed search that includes contacts, matters, and invoices.
Create New
The Create New button is a way to quick add items, like the Action Bar in Smokeball desktop. Select Create New to add a new Time Entry, Cost Recovery Entry, Payment, Credit, Client Account Deposit, Contact, Matter, Lead, Event, Task or Phone Message
