The Smokeball extension allows you to save webpages and PDFs open in your Google Chrome browser into a matter.
This feature is only available if you are using Google Chrome and not available on other web browsers.Â
How to Use the Smokeball Google Chrome Extension
- Download and enable the extension from the Google Chrome web store.
- Navigate to the webpage and select the Smokeball icon next to the address bar.
- Select either Save the URL or Save the Page.
- When you select Save the URL, you will be presented with a window to specify the matter to save to. Add a comment, then select Save.
The URL will appear under the Notes section of the matter.
- When you select Save the Page, the website file is saved to the Files section of the matter.
- When you select Save the URL, you will be presented with a window to specify the matter to save to. Add a comment, then select Save.
Chrome extension is not connecting to Smokeball
An issue you might experience with the extension is webpages not saving to Smokeball matters. For example, the webpage downloads to your laptop instead.
The steps below may resolve the issue:
Important Note: These steps involve editing your PC's registry entries. If you're unsure of how to do this, reach out to your IT staff.
- Open the Registry Editor on your PC.
- Navigate to the folder location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome\NativeMessagingHosts
- Right-Click the NativeMessagingHosts folder.
- Go to New and select Key.
- Name the new key com.google.chrome.smokeball
- Click into the key and double-click the (Default) item.
- Copy and paste the path C:\Program Files\Smokeball\binaries\appmanifest.json to the Value data field.
- Click OK.
