While it is not possible to directly print out a witness list from Smokeball, you can generate a printable table of your matter’s witnesses in Word with document automation. Follow these steps:
- Make sure you have completed the Witnesses field under Matter Details. You will need to enter at least one witness in this field.
- Select the Forms & Templates button and then select Add a Form/Letter.
- Choose Create from a blank document, enter a file name, and then select Create.
- Once Microsoft Word is open, select Insert and then select Table.
- Highlight one row in orange and three, five, or seven columns then click on your selection.
- Three Columns will display NAME/ADDRESS/PHONE/EMAIL.
- Five columns will display NAME/ADDRESS/PHONE/EMAIL/TESTIMONY
- Seven columns will display NAME/ADDRESS/PHONE/EMAIL/TESTIMONY/NOTES
- Alternatively, you can select Insert Table below the grid and then use the pop-up window, input the number of rows and columns, and then select OK.
- Highlight one row in orange and three, five, or seven columns then click on your selection.
- Place your mouse cursor in the first cell of the table.
- Select the Automate tab and then select Field on the Smokeball toolbar.
- Click on the arrow next to Witnesses to expand your options.
- Select Table of Witnesses (Seven Columns).
- The field will now be entered into your table cell as <<Witnesses/Table of Witnesses (Seven Columns)>>.
- Toggle Show Values in the Smokeball toolbar to view the data you previously entered into the matter, including name, address, testimony, and notes. Note: The Table of Witnesses field will not display values unless your mouse cursor is placed in the first cell of the table you inserted on Steps 4 and 5.
- Select File and then select Print to print out the table of witnesses.
- Optional: You can also select Save & Close from the Smokeball ribbon to save a copy of the witness table back to your matter.
