If your firm is required to submit invoices to court for a judge’s review and/or edits, Smokeball makes it possible to organize an invoice by item numbers and divided between fees and expenses.
To enable line items on your invoice, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Firm Settings.
- Select Invoice Settings.
- Select PDF Invoices.
- Scroll down and select Show Item Numbers.
Once line numbers are enabled, they will appear on all newly created invoices. The image below is an example of how an invoice organized by line numbers will appear:

Q: Can I change invoice numbers?
A: Invoice numbers are generated by Smokeball and cannot be revised or edited. Even if you delete the invoice, the number cannot be re-used.
