Create an If/Then/Else Statement with paragraph numbering

Available on Smokeball Grow and Prosper+

You can create If/Then/Else Statements with the paragraph numbering feature in Word. Follow these steps:

  1. Toggle on paragraph numbering in the Microsoft Word ribbon. It is fine to use either the single list or multi-level list.
  2. Select the Contains paragraph numbering checkbox on the Automate tab in the Smokeball Word toolbar before you insert the If/Then/Else statement into the document.

  3. Insert the If/Then/Else statement on its own line above the numbered paragraph(s).
  4. Cut (Ctrl-X or right-click and select Cut) the <<ELSE>> and <<END IF>> portions of the statement so that only the <<IF/THEN>> portion remains. You can then place <<ELSE>> and <<END IF>> directly below the affected paragraphs: See the example below:

<<IF (Child/Number of Cards) Greater Than (0) THEN>>

  1. The Parties shall file separate tax returns beginning tax year of 2019 and all subsequent years in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code. The Parties agree that they will alternate taxing the tax exemption of the minor child <<CHILD/[ALT] ren (plural)>> beginning tax year 2019 with the wife having odd years and the Husband having even years. This will continue until each minor child no longer qualifies as a dependent for tax purposes. The Parties agree to execute IRS Form 8332 by January 31st of each year the Husband is entitled to the tax exemption of the minor child<<Child/[ALT] ren (plural)>>.
  2. Beginning in the tax year 2019 and subsequent tax years, any refund received as a result of a Party's tax return shall be the sole property of the Party filing such return. Any amount due and owing to the IRS will be that respective Party's sole obligation.

<<ELSE>>
