Connect the Word Online Add-in to Smokeball

Available on Smokeball Boost

Learn how to add Smokeball to your Microsoft Word Online add-ins, allowing you to easily create letters from a matter in Smokeball.

The Word Online Add-in is currently only available for firms on the Smokeball Boost plan. If you are on Smokeball Grow or Prosper+, use the Microsoft Word desktop app to manage your letters.

  1. Log in to your Microsoft365 account and open a new or existing Word document in Word Online (i.e. Microsoft Word on your web browser).
  2. SelectĀ Add-ins under theĀ HomeĀ tab.Ā Note: If you cannot see the Add-ins button, click the Ribbon the display options arrow in the bottom-right corner of the menu and then select Classic Ribbon.
  3. SelectĀ More Add-ins.
  4. Search forĀ "Smokeball for Word"Ā in theĀ StoreĀ tab and follow the prompts to install the add-in.
    • If the add-in does not appear in search results, use this direct link to install it: Smokeball for Word
  5. Once the add-in has been installed successfully, theĀ SmokeballĀ tab will appear in Word Online. SelectĀ Show Details to open the right-hand menu.
  6. Confirm yourĀ Country and clickĀ Connect to Smokeball.
  7. A new window will open in your browser. Follow the prompts to log in. You may also be asked to log in to Microsoft to authorize the connection.
  8. Once you have logged in successfully, theĀ Smokeball for Word toolbar will appear on the right-hand side. This is where matter details will appear when you create a letter from a matter in Smokeball or save a document to a matter through Word Online.
Depending on your firm's IT configuration, you might not have permissions to download add-ins from the Office Store. Consult your IT provider to install and gain access to this add-in.

Next Steps

Once you have connected Word Online to Smokeball Boost, you can now save any Word document to a matterĀ orĀ Show DetailsĀ of a matter that this document is saved to.

You can also open any document in your matter in Word Online by selecting the three dots icon over a document and selecting Open on Web.

Any changes made to the document will be saved as a new version in the document details.

You can also create a letter directly from your matter in Smokeball Boost.
