Conflict Checks

Once you begin entering a contact’s name, you will be notified if their name appears in any other Smokeball matters.

Additionally, you can use our Advanced Search feature to perform and save a conflict check search to the matter.

Additional Parties not Displayed

  • There are a variety of additional fields and parties in Smokeball's Civil Law matter types.
  • If you don't see a particular party listed in the matter details, select the gear to access the matter setting.
  • Add or remove parties as needed.

Note: if you would like to change the default settings for certain matter types, take a look at our Matter Templates feature.

Additional Parties not available in Smokeball

Sometimes Smokeball may not have a field for a unique party that it is important to keep track of. This party is not the Plaintiff or Defendant but still involved in the matter. In this case, you would use the Authorized Contact field.

You can right click on the Authorized Contact and Edit Role & Legal Description to state how the additional party is involved in the matter. For example, you can add a spouse, parent, or another family member as an Authorized Contact if your client indicates that correspondence with them is permissible.

You can access Authorized Contacts by clicking on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the matter.

Experts and Witnesses

Smokeball recommends that you use Contact Tags to denote a specific type of expert.  You can easily filter your contacts in Smokeball to see what experts you have in specific specialties, such as Forensic Accountant, Forensic Engineer, Appraisal Expert, etc.
