Create eSignatures with InfoSign

InfoSign is a tool created by InfoTrack that makes it easy to use eSignatures with Smokeball. This article will explain how and when to use InfoSign.  

Add an eSignature to a document

1. Open a matter in the Smokeball desktop app.
2. Right-click on the document you need to sign.
3. Select eSign.
   
4. A tab will open in your web browser. Choose InfoSign or DocuSign.
   • Note: The next section of this article provides suggestions for which service to use. 
5. Select Confirm.
6. Use the Add signer dropdown menu to select the signature you wish to add. You can also select Add new signer if the signature is not already associated with an individual assigned to the matter. 
7. Complete the signer's details in the pop-up menu. You have the option to require SMS verification or add instructions.
8. Drag and drop the Signature button from the left panel to the place on the document where the signature needs to appear. 
9. Select Finish & Send.

The signer will receive an email inviting them to sign the document. 

They will need to click Review and sign. They will be taken to SignIT, where they can review the document before signing it. They then need to click on the signature box, draw their signature, and click Submit Signature. 

Differences between InfoSign and DocuSign

InfoSign shines with tasks like engagement letters and similar client correspondence. DocuSign is better suited for complex contracts. We advise using InfoSign for "everyday" documents and using DocuSign for court documents. 

Grow/Prosper+ users will have access to an unlimited number of InfoSign signatures for free. DocuSign, however, requires $5 per signature. 

From a more technical point of view, DocuSign has an x509 certificate to protect a signed document from being tampered with, whereas InfoSign provides an audit trail.

Q: What are pre-tagged document templates and witnesses? 

A: Pre-tagged document templates are documents that have the signature fields pre-populated. Witnesses allow you to add an eSignature and act as a witness.

Q: When a signature is signed, how will I be notified? 

A: You will receive an email notification. You can also add the InfoTrack Order Status widget to your Smokeball dashboard to view notifications from within Smokeball.
