Track Time Automatically with PointOne

Overview

PointOne is an AI timekeeper for law firms. It captures the work you do โ€” documents, email, calls, web, and more โ€” and uses AI to automatically generate complete time entries with narratives, assigned to your Smokeball matters.

With the Smokeball integration, your matters, clients, staff, and activity codes sync from Smokeball into PointOne automatically. When you release (finalize) time entries in PointOne, they are written back to Smokeball as fees on the correct matter โ€” attributed to the right timekeeper, with the narrative, duration, rate, and any selected activity code carried over.

Before you begin

  • You need a PointOne account with administrator access. (New to PointOne? Visit pointone.com to get started.)
  • You need your Smokeball login credentials to authorize the connection.
  • Each timekeeper's email address in PointOne should match their staff email in Smokeball โ€” PointOne matches timekeepers automatically by email.

Enable the integration

1.  Log in to the PointOne web app as an administrator.

2.  Open the Organization page from the left sidebar.

3.  Under Integrations, find Practice Management System and select Smokeball from the dropdown.

4.  On the Smokeball card that appears, click Connect. A Smokeball sign-in window opens โ€” sign in with your Smokeball credentials and approve the connection.

5.  You'll be returned to PointOne, and the Smokeball card will show Connected. Your matters, clients, staff, and activity codes sync automatically โ€” they typically appear in PointOne within about 20โ€“30 minutes of connecting.

Using the integration

1.  Track time. Work as usual โ€” PointOne captures your activity and generates time entries automatically, assigned to your Smokeball matters. You can also add an entry manually and pick the matter, which now includes your Smokeball matters.

Creating an entry โ€” Smokeball matters appear in the matter picker.

2.  Review. Review your entries in PointOne โ€” narratives and durations are pre-filled and editable, and you can set task and activity codes synced from Smokeball.

3.  Release. Select your entries and click Release. Each released entry is created in Smokeball as a fee on its matter, attributed to the correct timekeeper with the narrative, duration, rate, and any selected activity code.
