How to connect Astrid Legal with Smokeball

Astrid Legal records and transcribes your client calls, drafts the note in your firm's own format, and once an attorney approves it, files it to the matter in Smokeball, along with any follow-up tasks. Connecting takes a few minutes and doesn't touch anything already in Smokeball.

Before you start: You'll need a Smokeball login with permission to authorize third-party app access for your firm. If you're not sure whether your account can do that, check with whoever administers your firm's Smokeball account.

Step 1: Log in to Astrid

Sign in to your Astrid account at astrid.legal.

Step 2: Go to Settings

From the sidebar, open Settings, then select User settings.

Step 3: Open the Integrations tab

User settings has two tabs, Profile and Integrations. Select Integrations.

Step 4: Connect your Smokeball account

Under Case management system, use the System dropdown to select Smokeball, then click Connect Smokeball. You'll be redirected to Smokeball to log in (if you aren't already) and authorize Astrid's access. Once you approve it, you're sent back to Astrid, and the card shows Connected to Smokeball.

Step 5: Calls are auto-linked to its Smokeball matter

Astrid will automatically detect meeting participants and search matters and contacts to sync the call to the correct matter in Smokeball.

Alternatively you can manually set the matter by opening any call in Astrid and use the matter search to find and select the matching Smokeball matter.

Step 6: Approve a note

Once a call finishes processing, review the draft note. An attorney has to approve it before anything files anywhere. Approving is what starts the filing, not a separate button.

Step 7: Check the matter in Smokeball

Open the matter in Smokeball. The approved note appears as a Memo, and any follow-up items appear as Tasks, each with a link back to the original call in Astrid. It may take a moment to appear after you approve it.

Why connect Smokeball

Nothing gets retyped. A call becomes a filed memo and a set of tasks without a paralegal copying anything over by hand.

A human reviews every note first. Nothing reaches the matter until a licensed attorney approves it, and that approval is recorded permanently: who, their role, and when.

Every note points back to the call. Anyone reading the memo in Smokeball can follow the link to the original call in Astrid.
