Set up an Estimated Annual Cost for a staff member

Learn how to assign an Estimated Annual Cost for a staff member's salary, using this to gain insights into staff costs.

The Estimated Annual Cost feature is only accessible by Firm Owners.

Enter an Estimated Annual Cost

  1. Select the gear icon on the top-right corner of Smokeball to access Smokeball Settings.
  2. Select Staff & Users from the left panel.
  3. Double-click on a staff member from the list.
  4. Select the Billing tab. 
  5. On the bottom of the window, input the staff member’s Estimated Annual Cost (I.e. their salary). 
  6. Click Save.

Repeat these steps for each relevant staff member.

Using Estimated Annual Cost in Firm Insights

The Estimated Annual Cost feeds into staff costing on the Fee Earner report in Firm Insights, providing profitability reporting.

Using Estimated Annual Cost in Matter Insights

You can also review Estimated Annual Costs as part of the staff costing reports available in matter files. Select Matter Insights to get started with profitability reporting for a specific matter.
