Learn how Statutory Deposit Accounts (SDAs) are handled in Smokeball.
Creating the Statutory Deposit Matter
- Open the Smokeball Web App, and navigate to the Matters tab from the left menu.
- Select Add Matter.
- In the Client drop-down menu, select the contact to whom you pay the Statutory Deposit funds (e.g. Law Society, LIV).
- In the Matter Type drop-down menu, select General or Conveyancing General.
- In the Matter Number field, enter 999999.
- If you are on Smokeball Boost or Smokeball Bill, you may not be able to change the matter number, as it will be automatically assigned.
- In the Matter Description field, enter Statutory Deposit.
- Select Create Matter.
- Navigate to the Settings icon on the bottom-left corner of the Smokeball Web App and select Firm Settings.
- Select Accounts from the left menu and click on your trust account from the list of trust accounts.
- In the Statutory Deposit Matter field, start typing in 999999. The matter you created earlier should be displayed on the list.
- Select Save.
Using the Statutory Deposit matter
To add payments, locate the matter using the search bar in the Smokeball Web App, select the relevant trust account and enter them by selecting Trust Payment.
The Deposit Funds button is greyed out because this matter has been assigned as the Statutory Deposit Matter.
Any payment on this matter will appear in the list of reconciled payments, just like any other matter.
Generating a Statutory Deposit report
To get a report of all payments or receipts to your Statutory Deposit, open the trust account in the Statutory Deposit matter and select Print.
The Statutory Deposit matter balance will also be shown in the Totals section of your Trial Balance Report.
