It is common for many Estate Planning matters to involve two clients. There are two methods for creating wills for matters with two clients. First method:
- Select the Forms and Templates button from your matter’s action bar.
- Open your Living Will form.
- Once Word has loaded the form, select Replace References on the toolbar. Select Client in the Replace dropdown menu.
- Learn how to use Replace References for when clients are on the same contact card or on individual contact cards.
- Use the pop-up menu and plus/minus arrows to select Client 2 in the With dropdown menu.
The above method is best if you only wish to manage a single Living Will document in your matter.
Second method:
- Select the Forms and Templates button from your matter’s action bar.
- Right-click the Living Will document and select Create Copy. Right-click on the copy document and re-name it to Living Will Declaration – Client 2.
- Select Living Will – Declaration – Client 2 and then select Modify.
- Once Word has loaded the form, Select Replace References on the toolbar.
- Replace Client 1 with Client 2.
- Recommended: Describe why you changed the field in the pop-up window.
- Select Save.
Both Living Wills will now be available in your Forms & Templates Library.
This method will change the template’s fields. Once you select Save and Close, your matter will now have a second Living Will which you can rename to indicate that it is for the second client.Â
The benefit of this method is that you will not have to use replace references again. However, any updates to the template will need to be made to both documents moving forward.Â
