Estate Planning for Couples

When you are preparing an estate plan for a couple, it is optimal to include both parties on the same estate planning matter. You can add both parties separately or include them on the same contact card.

Add both parties separately

The best practice is to add both parties separately, as it makes document automation easier.

Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Matter Details sections and mouseover Client.
  2. Right-click and select Add Client.
    • Choose if the new party uses the same attorney or a different attorney.
  3. The original party will be marked as Client 1 and the new party will be marked as Client 2 under Matter Details.

Add both parties to a single contact card

Alternatively, you can place both parties together on one contact card. Invoices will go to both clients on the same address block, but document automation will be more complicated.

Follow these steps:

  1. Double-click on the Client field under Matter Details to open the Contact Card.
  2. Select Add Another Person.
  3. Enter as much information as possible and select Save.
  4. The additional contact will appear alongside the original client in the Client field.
