Set up the Personal Injury Settlement Statement

Available on Smokeball Grow and Prosper+

One of the powerful features of Smokeball's Personal Injury-Plaintiff matter type is the ability to generate a settlement statement.

Note: It is important that key information is entered under Medicals & Settlement Statement, as well as entering your firm costs (expenses) to get the most out of our Settlement Statement.

Read on to learn how to set up and generate a settlement statement in Smokeball.

Prepare the Settlement Statement

  1. Double-click on Medicals & Settlement Details under your Personal-Injury—Plaintiff matter details.
  2. Select the Settlement Statement tab in the Medicals & Settlement Details layout.
  3. Enter your settlement amount and attorney's fees.
    • If there are multiple settlement amounts, right click and choose Insert Standard Item>Settlement Amount.  You can add text to the description to show which company is paying which settlement. blobid2.png
  4. Under each line item, select the link to customize your options.
  5. Attorneys' Costs will be automatically added from Smokeball Expenses, but you can choose to manually enter any Attorneys' costs by selecting manual entry.
  6. Medicals will auto populate based on information enter in Medicals and Liens & Balances.
  7. If desired, select the line item and use the arrows to move the line item up or down.

To edit standard items and how you want your settlement statement to appear on all PI-Plaintiff matter types, select the Standard Items tab in the top right.

  • The checkboxes add or remove options.
  • The arrows on the top right allow you to move line items up or down.
  • You can also select standard options for attorneys' fees, attorneys' costs, and medicals by selecting the blue Click to Select links.

Generate the Settlement Statement

Once you have set up your settlement statement, locate the Settlement Statement template under Forms & Templates. The settlement statement will be created in Microsoft Word to allow for more customized editing.

Note: You can also right click and modify the template to include your firm letterhead or customize the client agreement language. Learn more about modifying templates.
