Set up FamilyPro

FamilyPro is currently in private beta and only available to firms which practice in Illinois. If you would like to have access to FamilyPro, please email sara.hawes@smokeball.com.

FamilyPro is a suite of features which enhances the financial analysis process of your family law cases. FamilyPro is a part of Smokeball which allows you to take advantage of its specialized intake, balance sheets, model offers, and court form generation to streamline your work. Test.

FamilyPro leverages information you collect from your client into three important features:

  1. Balance Sheet Intake: A form you send to your client which securely collects information about assets and liabilities. It is best practice to send this form to your client after they retain your firm and when it is time to start the financial discovery process.
  2. Interactive Balance Sheet: FamilyPro includes an auto-calculating, interactive balance sheet that you can use to model property division proposals and outcomes.
  3. Statewide Financial Court Forms: These financial court forms auto-populate with your client’s financial information, expediting the drafting of complex forms. These forms are statewide forms based on the case’s jurisdiction.

You can review these features in-depth in this related article

Access FamilyPro from Smokeball

You can access FamilyPro from any matter or lead in Smokeball by selecting the FamilyPro tab.

Use Pop Out if you wish to view FamilyPro in another window. Any activity you perform in the tab or pop-out window will be tracked by Activity as “Preparation of financials/financial information in FamilyPro.”

This integration will also create a FamilyPro folder in your matter’s documents section. Saved forms from FamilyPro will be saved here.

Important Note: The end of this article provides a list of all the information in your matter that will sync from Smokeball to FamilyPro.

Navigating FamilyPro

You can access the three primary features of FamilyPro by using the menu on the left side of your screen. You can also use the circular button to collapse the menu.

Invite your client

We recommend inviting your client to collaborate with you on their FamilyPro Matter. Common scenarios for inviting a client include:

  1. Enabling the client to fill out the Balance Sheet Intake form at their own pace and on their own device.
  2. Giving the client the ability to explore property distribution scenarios with a simplified balance sheet that is also accessible to your firm.
  3. Providing the client with the convenience of completing the initial draft of the Illinois Financial Affidavit on their own device.

Select Invite my client to invite your client to FamilyPro. FamilyPro will automatically pull in your client’s name and email address from their Smokeball matter. This information will then appear in the Invite my client pop-up window.

The invite will permit your client to use all three primary FamilyPro features by default. However, you can restrict their access to individual features by selecting the Customize access checkbox and then ticking off which features you want the client to access.

Next, select Save and a new pop-up window will appear with a shareable link. Select the Copy & Close button and then send it to your client through your preferred communication method, such as email or Communicate.

Your client will be asked to create a secure login and password with FamilyPro once they click on the link you send them. They will then be able to access the FamilyPro matter at any time.

Template email contents

We have drafted template language for your firm to use when inviting a client to collaborate on their matter in FamilyPro. Click on the box below to use this template and adjust it as needed:
