Process credit card transactions with Smokeball Payments

Smokeball Payments is designed to make it easy for your firm to process credit card transactions. This article explains how to save a client's credit card to Smokeball, process a transaction with a saved card, and process a one-time transaction with a new card. Read on to learn more. 

How to save a client's credit card

To save a client's credit card to Smokeball:

  1. Log into Smokeball Billing
  2. Open your client's contact page.
  3. Navigate to the Credit Card tab. 
  4. Select Add Credit Card.
  5. The Save Credit Card pop-up window will open and allow you to input the client's credit card details.
  6. Select Save Card

If successful, you will receive a green notification message in the upper right corner of Smokeball.

How to add a payment with a saved credit card

To process a transaction using a credit card on file, follow these steps:

  1. Log into Smokeball Billing.
  2. Navigate to the Invoices tab in your client's matter.
  3. Select the Add Payment button.
  4. Enter the amount, select Credit Card from the type dropdown menu, and indicate how you would like the payment applied if multiple invoices exist in the Add a Payment pop-up window.
  5. Toggle Take Payment Now on. 
  6. Select Enter Payment Details.
  7. Select the credit card you wish to charge from the dropdown menu.
  8. Select Process to complete the transaction.

If the payment is successful, you will see a green notification message in the upper right corner of Smokeball.

How to add a one-time payment with a new credit card

To process a one-time transaction with a new credit card:

  1. Log into Smokeball Billing.
  2. Navigate to your client's matter and select the Invoices tab.
  3. Select the Add Payment button.
  4. Enter the amount of the transaction and indicate how to apply it to the invoices below (if multiple invoices exist).
  5. Select Credit Card as the payment type from the dropdown menu and toggle Take Payment Now on.
  6. Select Enter Payment Details.
  7. In the Add a Payment pop-up window, select Enter new card details from the Credit Card dropdown menu.
  8. Enter the client's information and credit card details.
  9. Optional: You can toggle Save credit card details on if you wish to save the new card for future use.
  10. Select Process

If successful, you will receive a green notification message in the upper right corner of Smokeball.
