When you select Units when creating a time or fixed fee entry, one unit may show as 1 minute, 6 minutes, 15 minutes, or a custom amount.
You can switch between them according to your firm's needs by changing this in Smokeball Settings:
Change units in the Smokeball desktop app
- Select the gear icon on the top-right corner.
- Select Time & Billing, then under Billing Units, select 1-minute, 6-minute, 15-minute, or custom increments.
- Select Save.
Change units in a single matter in Smokeball desktop app
- Open the matter and select Matter Info.
- Select the Billing tab and use the Billing Units dropdown menu to select 1-minute, 6-minute, 15-minute, or custom increments.
Change units in Smokeball Web app
- Select the gear icon on the lower left corner and then select Firm Settings.
- Select Time & Activities from the left panel, then under Billing Units, choose either 1-minute, 6-minute, 15-minute, or custom increments from the drop-down menu.
- Select Apply.
Change units in a single matter in Smokeball Web app
- Open your matter and then select the Edit Matter link.
- Select Billing Fees and Rates.
- Use the Billing Units Round To dropdown menu to select 1-minute, 6-minute, 15-minute, or custom increments.
- Select the Save Matter button.

Q: How does rounding for billing increments work?
A: Time entries will round up regardless of how many minutes you spend on the activity. For example, if you choose to round time entries to 15 minute increments, an activity you 1 minute on will still be processed as .25 hours (15 minutes) by AutoTime.
