Time Finder will not be available if AutoTime is turned on for a user. Using AutoTime? Smokeball creates your time entries each night. To find activities that haven’t become time entries, use the Activity tab instead.
Smokeball tracks your work as you do it, so you don’t have to remember it all at the end of the day. Time Finder lists those activities by date, so you can turn them into time entries for invoicing in a click.

Accessing Time Finder
For one matter: open the matter in the Smokeball desktop app, then select Time Finder in the Matter Action Bar.
Across all matters: in the main Smokeball window, select Time Finder in the Smokeball Action Bar.

Filtering by Date and Staff

To find activities from a different date range, change the date filter in the Time Finder window. You can also select the date to jump straight to a specific day.

To see another staff member’s activities, select your name next to the date, then choose someone else from the drop-down list.
Approve, reject, or edit an activity
If Smokeball finds activities for the date you chose, they’re listed in Time Finder. For each one:
- Select the green tick to add it as a time entry on the matter. It will then appear in Time & Disbursements, ready to add to an invoice.
- Select the red cross to reject it and remove it from Time Finder.
- Select the yellow ellipsis to open the activity and edit it. It will stay in Time Finder until you select the green tick or red cross for it.
Good to know
- Time Finder works day by day. To check for gaps across several days or staff members, use the Activity tab.
- The default hourly rate applies to activities you add. You can change the rate on an entry by navigating to the Time & Disbursements tab, opening the entry and overriding the rate.
